Naples in 1828

Similar to the 1815 map in that it is a direct view from the air, this time with great attention to the topography, showing how the land leads steeply up from the seaside to what is now the Vomero section of town. The whole area remained largely undeveloped until the 20th century. Note that the Royal Gardens (now the Villa Comunale)—in the red oval—is directly on the sea. The modern seaside road, via Caracciolo, is not yet present, as it is a result of the urban renewal of Naples at the turn of the 19th/20th century.
